Summer Fresh Lemonade

lemonade

1 cup sugar
1 cup water
1 cup lemon juice
3 to 4 cups cold water

Make a syrup by heating the sugar and water in a small saucepan until the sugar is completely dissolved. Use a citrus press or reamer to squeeze the juice from 4 to 6 lemons, enough for one cup of juice. Add the juice and the sugar water to a pitcher. Add 3 to 4 cups of cold water, to your desired taste. Refrigerate 30 to 40 minutes. Serve with ice and sliced lemons.

*Tips for juicing lemons:
Make sure the lemons are at room temperature. If you’re in a hurry, you can microwave a lemon for 30 seconds. Roll it on the counter. This breaks the membranes, and you will get more juice.

*To make a delicious pink lemonade, add 2 teaspoons grenadine and 1/4 cup maraschino cherry juice. Cranberry juice is also fun to add, and makes a pretty color.
